The Invisibles

Thursday, April 4, 4:00 PM
Stirn Auditorium, Amherst College, Amherst

The Invisibles brings emotion and authenticity to the little-known story of Jewish teens and young adults who outlasted the Third Reich while hiding in Berlin. In June 1943, the German government famously declared Berlin "judenfrei" - free of Jews. But there were still 7,000 Jews living in hiding in the German capital. Only 1,700 reached liberation, thanks to sheer wits, luck, and the decency of fellow Germans brave enough to protect them. Brilliantly mixing oral histories with striking reenactments, director Claus Räfle tells the true story of four of the 1,700 survivors who hid in plain sight throughout the war.
